Argentina bids farewell to President Cristina Fernandez,  Storm Desmond in the UK, the now-completely-dry Poopó Lake in Bolivia, a huge attitude hat in Denver, Angela Merkel carrying a wolf in Germany, the arrest of Martin Shkreli in New York, the Swedish festival of Sankta Lucia observed in the UK, Lynx in Scotland, and much more. (A note: the following photos are from the past two weeks, as I skipped last week’s edition.)

The festival of Sankta Lucia is a traditional Swedish festival of light that celebrates the bringer of light during the long darkness of winter. The service features a candlelit procession and carols in celebration of Saint Lucy, a young Sicilian girl who was martyred for her Christian faith in the early fourth century. The service, which is run in partnership with York Anglo-Scandanavian Society, starts with a procession led by a girl wearing a crown of candles, thought to symbolize a halo and a red sash that symbolizes martyrdom.
