다양한 세상 모습을 담은 사진들: All-Request Photos: Stanley Cup Playoffs, Ernest Hemingway, Lucha Libre ...

All-Request Photos: Stanley Cup Playoffs, Ernest Hemingway, Lucha Libre ...

As part of an ongoing experiment, I solicited reader requests for news photos as part of our Culture Report. I asked people on Twitter and email, "Would you like to see a good photo of a particular subject? A high-res version of a photo you've already seen somewhere else? A photo from a particular photographer or event? If I have access and can find it, I'll try to post it." The response was even better than the last time we did this, the subject matter was varied, and the task of finding the images and composing the entry was great fun. Images ranged from Ernest Hemingway to the Flaming Lips, taken in places from North Korea to the International Space Station. If you like this experiment, let me know in the comments, and I'll turn it into a more regular feature. To all those who made requests, thanks so much.

Jesse Flanagan (@TetradTX) asked for "anything from the screening of The Hobbit? Or just from cons in general?" I wasn't able to find anything from the Hobbit, but was able to find this portrait of Joely Olsen from East Sussex, wearing a turret costume from the computer game "Portal" during the MCM London Comic Con convention at the ExCel center in east London on October 29, 2011. Running over two days, the event saw thousands of comic, sci-fi and gaming enthusiasts coming together to buy, sell and celebrate everything from sporting heroes to Japanese "Steam Punk" characters. (Leon Neal/AFP/Getty Images)

(@sunhmi) asked to see the "beautiful landscape of Swat Valley, Pakistan.". I found this amazing image of Kandol Lake, in Swat Valley, Pakistan, about 200km north of Peshawar. (CC BY Muhammad Ismail)

Chagmed (@chagmed) made a request to see "Mitt Romney!" There are so many photos to choose from, I tried to find one that let you see him as more of a person, less a politician, and feel that photographer Gerald Herbert really captured that here. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney listens to a question from a reporter as he visits a campaign call center in Livonia, Michigan, on February 28, 2012.(AP Photo/Gerald Herbert)

Caio Turbiani (@caioturbiani) asked to see one of "London's Historic Photos". Here, pedestrians on London Bridge watch boats and barges being unloaded, in the Pool of London, on the River Thames, on April 20, 1929. (AP Photo)

Colin (@cpbowyer): "Basque culture in Northern Spain." There were many Basque traditions to choose from. Here, a competitor attempts to tear off the head of a dead goose attached to a rope, which is repeatedly raised and lowered into the harbor, during fiestas in the Basque fishing town of Lekeitio, on September 6, 2009. Successful participants are allowed to keep the goose.(Reuters/Vincent West)

Vlassopoulou Maria (@vlassopoulou) asked to see "Athens-Parthenon". Dark clouds pass over a semi-sunlit Parthenon temple atop the ancient Acropolis Hill in Athens on Monday, March 13, 2006. (AP Photo/Petros Giannakouris)

Arjen vd Broecke (@PaVink) asked for a themed photo of "the audience says it all". In downtown Shanghai, a woman smiles during an audition for the television show "China's Got Talent", on May 10, 2011. China's version of the internationally popular television talent show started its second season with more than 5,000 applicants and with an estimated audience of more than 35.5 million people.(Reuters/Carlos Barria)

Lluu nndd (@lluunndd) had a number of requests, but the one I was able to find was "Hemingway doing something badass." American author Ernest Hemingway, who, at the time, was a reporter and paramilitary aide in the liberation of France from German occupation in World War II, is shown wearing boxing gear in July 1944. (AP Photo)

JF Godin (@jfgodin) asked to see "downhill mountain biking". Well, JF, you weren't specific (alpine or urban downhill), so you get two photos. Photo 1: A rider jumps towards mount Dachstein during a qualification run at the mountain bike downhill World Cup final on Planai track in Schladming, Austria, on September 10, 2006. (Reuters/Heinz-Peter Bader)

Hova Jones (@1hova) said "I'd like to see photos of live music!" I hope you're a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Here, Flea from the U.S. rock band The Red Hot Chili Peppers performs during a concert in Barcelona, Spain, on December 15, 2011.(AP Photo/Manu Fernandez)

Patrick O'Donnell (@podders1981) said it "would be great to see a picture of World Scouting." This was a difficult photo to find, and focuses more on American scouts than worldwide, but I hope it fits your request. This Wednesday, July 28, 2010 photo shows more than 45,000 Boy Scouts as they salute during the singing of the national anthem as part of the Boy Scouts of America 2010 National Scout Jamboree at Ft. AP Hill, Virginia. (AP Photo/DOD, Cherie Cullen)

Erin Elias (@eaelias) asked for "a photo from the immersive theater production 'Sleep No More'". Here, actors Eric Jackson Bradley and Tori Sparks perform the parts of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in a production of "Sleep No More" in New York, on July 25, 2011. A haunted house, it's not. But for theatergoers including many high-profile celebrities hidden behind masks, "Sleep No More" certainly is haunting. Dubbed "immersive theater" by directors Felix Barrett and Maxine Doyle of British theater company Punchdrunk, the new show compels audience members to roam five floors and almost 100 rooms of the fictional 1930s McKittrick Hotel in search of performances -- small snatches of dance or largely silent scenes between actors -- that will lead them on an adventure. (Reuters/Lucas Jackson)

Sunrise At The Sky (@SunriseAtTheSky): "Next may is the anniversary of 15M movement, probably you can find good pictures from Puerta del Sol, Madrid in Spain." Thousands of people protest against recent labor reforms at Puerta del Sol square in Madrid, Spain, Thursday, March 29, 2012 during a general strike day. Spanish unions angry over economic reforms are waging a general strike, challenging a conservative government not yet 100 days old and joining other troubled European workers in venting their frustration on the street.(AP Photo/Alberto Di Lolli)

Kaleem (@kaleemux) asked for an image of "The cultural contradiction of Formula 1. Especially relevant given last week's Bahrain fiasco." Very difficult image to find. Those that oppose or feel harmed by the F1 race in Bahrain are almost never seen in photos of the racers, cars, or audience. But the evidence of their unrest is visible. Here, a man smokes next to a wall with anti-Formula One graffiti in a village in Diraz, west of Manama early April 22, 2012. Formula One raced in Bahrain while rage boiled on the streets outside, among protesters who denounce the Grand Prix as a gaudy spectacle by a ruling family that crushed Arab Spring demonstrations last year.(Reuters/Hamad I Mohammed)

Sunrise At The Sky (@SunriseAtTheSky) asked to see "Enterprise arriving in NY, for example with the Statue of Liberty." The Space Shuttles Enterprise rides atop a NASA modified 747 plane over the Statue of Liberty in New York April 27, 2012. The Space Shuttle Enterprise officially arrives in New York to be placed at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. (Reuters/Brendan McDermid)

Justin Badlam (@jmbadlam) requested a photo of the "2012 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs." A young Phoenix Coyotes fan is tossed in the air as fans around her cheer on their team as Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne, of Finland, stands in front of the goal during the third period of Game 1 in an NHL hockey Stanley Cup Western Conference semifinal playoff series, Friday, April 27, 2012, in Glendale, Arizona. The Coyotes won 4-3 in overtime. (AP Photo/Ross D. Franklin)

Patricia Valerio (@patriciavalerio) said "I'd love to see a photo of a place that not a lot of people know about." One place that always comes to mind is Abkhazia, a disputed region on the eastern coast of the Black Sea. Locals (and a few countries including Russia) claim independence, but Georgian authorities assert the territory is part of Georgia. A brief, but violent war in 1992 left many towns and villages in this beautiful region in ruins. (Part 1 of 2) Picture taken on April 8, 2008 shows Abkhazia's Black Sea coast outside Sukhumi.(Kazbek Basayev/AFP/Getty Images)

(Part 2 of 2 request from Patricia Valerio, @patriciavalerio) Abkhazia is just down the road (100km south) from Sochi, Russia, home to the 2014 Winter Olympics, and continued unrest in the area has led to preparations for strong security around the games. Here, an Abkhazian man walks past war-damaged apartment buildings in Sukhumi, the capital of the Georgian breakaway region of Abkhazia, on August 25, 2011. (AP Photo/Mikhail Metzel)

Hurworld (@hurworld) requested to see "Semana Santa in Spain." Penitens of the 'El Cristo de la Resurreccion' brotherhood take part in their Holy Week procession on April 8, 2012 in Sevilla. (Cristina Quicler/AFP/Getty Images)

Caitlin Curran (@cecurran) said "What about silhouetted concert photos?" Not quite a concert, but a striking silhoutte from a performance. An artist performs in the Waterwall show in Lisbon, Portugal, on August 5, 2011. Waterwall, a Italian production based on water, tumblers and music, is held as part of Lisbon's summer festivities. (Reuters/Jose Manuel Ribeiro)

Peter Nankivell (@PeterNankivell) asked to see "the culture of having a coffee in Italy." Here, a waiter serves a freshly brewed espresso at a cafe terrace on Campo dei Fiori in central Rome, on April 17, 2009 during the "Espresso Italiano day 2009". Italians drink some 70 million cups of coffee at the bars everyday, according to the figures given by the National Institute of Italian Espresso.(Alberto Pizzoli/AFP/Getty Images)

J.R. Levesque (@Enernoj) asked to see "the North Korean rocket that is presumed to be a fake." A pair of German missile experts claim this particular missile is a fake, pointing to ripples and imperfections on the surface "as if a thin metal sheet was fixed onto a simple inner frame." The rocket is carried by a military vehicle during a military parade to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Kim Il-sung in Pyongyang, North Korea, on April 15, 2012. (Reuters/Bobby Yip)

Alexandra (@alexandra_z) asked to see "anything related to Haruki Murakami or books, in general." Nothing for Murakami, but I did find this photo of Ishwori Sapkota, as she arranges books at her book store in Kathmandu, on December 18, 2011. She has been selling and buying second hand books for the past eighteen years. (Reuters/Navesh Chitrakar)

Francisca Maturana wrote "I would like to see photos of the London Ballet rehearsal or other important dance companies." A General view in the wings as the English National Ballet perform "Beyond Ballet Russes" at the Coliseum on March 28 in London, England.(Ian Gavan/Getty Images)

Simon Cole (@scole01) asked to see "Sydney, from a different/unusual perspective." Here you go, Sydney from low Earth orbit. The Sydney-Wollongong area at night, seen from the International Space Station on February 22, 2012. (NASA)

Randy (@randallfm) asked for photos "of mexican wrestling, Lucha libre." Mexican lucha libre wrestler Selva Salvaje (Spanish for Wild Jungle) poses for a photo at a gymnasium in Mexico City, on September 27, 2011. Salvaje, a mother of two, has been wrestling for more than seven years. She is married to a wrestler. The majority of Mexican female lucha libre wrestlers are housewives and part-time wrestlers. (Reuters/Carlos Jasso)

Greg Davis (@gsdav) wanted to see "The Flaming Lips in concert". Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips surfs the crowd as he performs at The Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, on June 17, 2011. (Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

Kiwi (@kiwilostie) asked for "Local culture alive amidst war in Afghanistan." Mohammad Saber Yaqoti Hussaini Khedri, second right, the calligrapher of the world's biggest copy of the holy Quran turns a page at a ceremony in Kabul, Afghanistan, on January 12, 2012. Hussaini Khedri claims to have completed the writing of the world's biggest copy of Islam's holy Quran in 5 years along with his nine students.(AP Photo/Musadeq Sadeq)

Gregory Hudson (@Greg_Hudson) asked about "Ireland / N. Ireland border -- anything going on up there? The people that live there." I wasn't able to find much from very recent days, but did find this striking image from 2008. Lee Young, 8 , stands beside the peace wall were he lives on the mainly Protestant Shankill area of West Belfast, Northern Ireland, on April, 10, 2008. Lee Young, 8, and neighbor Cein Quinn, 7, live barely 200 yards from each other, but they probably will never meet. Lee is Protestant, Cein a Catholic, and their communities in Belfast's west inner city are separated by a wall called a peace line. It's nearly 40 years old and 40 feet (12 meters) high.(AP Photo/Peter Morrison)

Michael Vincent (@m_v) requested "ANZAC day, commemorated this past Wednesday in Australia. Very important day in Aus. Dawn services are very powerful/moving." A member of a catafalque party from 324 City of Randwick Squadron, Australian Air Force Cadets stands with a rifle in front of a cenotaph in eastern Sydney during an Anzac Day dawn service April 25, 2012. Mike Slickster (@MikeSlickster) said "I love your features of shots from outer space, especially the ones from the International Space Station, and would like to see more." While not strictly a culture-related request, it's hard to pass up. Here, an unpiloted ISS Progress resupply vehicle approaches the International Space Station, carrying 2.8 tons of food, fuel and supplies. The cargo delivery included 1,988 pounds of propellant, 110 pounds of oxygen and air, 926 pounds of water and 2,703 pounds of spare parts, resupply items and experiment hardware for the residents of the space station. Progress 47 docked to the station's Pirs Docking Compartment on April 22, 2012. (NASA)
