An aerial glimpse from atop Corcovado Mountain shows Rio de Janeiro and Sugar Loaf Mountain. People who climb to the top of Corcovado will find more than a breathtaking view -- they'll also find the famed statue of Christ the Redeemer. People hold up a banner with an image of Christ the Redeemer as they await the eventual announcement bestowing the Rio de Janeiro with the honor of hosting the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Brazilian president represented Rio by visiting Copenhagen, Denmark, and delivering a passionate appeal for South America to be awarded the Olympics for the first time. People relax at the world reknown Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. The beach is one of Brazil's most popular social spots, and was the title of a 1978 disco song by Barry Manilow. A Rio resident relaxes at Copacabana Beach. Brazil will host the soccer World Cup in 2014 and the Summer Olympics just two years later. Rio beat out Chicago, Tokyo and Madrid to earn hosting rights for the 2016 Summer Games. In 2006, thousands of residents and tourists watced the parade of Vila Isabel samba school. This image shows a float paying homage to Mexico during the opening night of the traditional Rio samba school parade. Christ the Redeemer, the most photographed icon in Rio de Janeiro, sits atop Corcovado Mountain in Tijuca National Park. The park is considered the largest urban forest in the world. Non-professional dancers practice the samba to live music at the Grande Baile do Clube dos Democraticos. A 1920s mansion sits on large grounds at Parue Lage with Christ the Redeemer visible atop Corcovado Mountain in the distance. A tourist towels off as others relax at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.
